Reservation system is also known as quota system. At the time of Independence, our leaders laid down the foundation that, any citizen of India shall not be discriminated in terms of religion, race, caste, sex etc. But today special provision are given to few caste and tribes in our country.These Reservation systems are basically for the Scheduled Castes and ScheduleTribes (Other Backward Class) who do not have adequate representation of institutions and other basic services. It is not only the reservation quota, that is a part of this, but there are also sub-quotas.This reservation system has been approved by the Parliament of India. The central government of India reserves 27% to 50% seats of professional education especially for these Schedule Caste and Tribes all over India. The Constitiution had also laid down 15% to 20% vacancies for the government aided educational institutes and jobs in not only the government sector but also public sector.
Today education is the basic necessity of every individual. A person without education can not survive in todays world.
Though in todays world, Reservation system in Indian Profession Education is an advantage for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates however, it is also a disadvantage for the other deserving candidates. Reservation system in Indian Profession Education is actually not justified in this modern age. Candidates from general and open class feel that the government is giving special preferences to this special section OBC candidates. The government is slowly conquering the middle class, general or open category candidates. The conditions of reserved categories is improving day by day but the conditions of general or open category people has remained more or less the same. The Government and Education Minister have always paid special emphasis to the SC, ST and OBC candidates.
Approving reservations could be a good thing for backward class but not really beneficial to the commendable students and great minds. For example, a candidate from a Scheduled Castes who can afford higher education will definitely try for a scholarship and a seat whether he may be a deserving candidate or not. Then what is the use of Reservation. It is not that every candidate from OBC can not afford higher education. Even middle class, general or open category candidates may not be in a position of affording higher education. Reservations should be given to candidates who deserves it and not to the one who needs it. Apart from that many people in Rural India might not know the benefits of Reservations. People who are aware of it are enjoying these benefits. Reservation should be provided to economically backward class not only for the Profession Education but also for the basic level education. One disadvantage of Reservation is also that, a candidate who is much more capable and with higher percentage does not get the admission where as the other candidate with lower percentage gets the admission just because he is from Reservation system.
Now days, the value of professional education is declining slowly and rapidly. A large number of private institutions are coming into picture. Students instead of junior college or proper education get into professional streams. A large pool of Engineers, MBAs and Doctors (students) are passing out yearly without much effort.
